A jury has sentenced Veronica Youngblood, a mother from McLean, to 78 years in prison for the 2018 murders of her two daughters. The 37-year-old was found guilty of four felonies last week, including two counts of first-degree murder (which carry sentences of 36 years each) and two counts of using a handgun in the commission of a murder, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano’s announcement on Monday (3 years each).

In August 2018, Youngblood is suspected of shooting her children Brooklynn Youngblood, 5, and Sharon Castro, 15, at their McLean flat. Following a custody argument with her former husband, Ronald Youngblood, the incident took place.
After a protracted custody battle, in which Brooklynn was scheduled to move to Missouri with Veronica’s ex-husband, Ron, that weekend, she allegedly informed detectives that she intended to kill them both.
According to reports, Youngblood bought a gun on July 27. The night of the murder, she allegedly gave her daughters sleeping medication gummies before shooting them in their beds.
