Vanessa Mark, an undergraduate student at Brandeis University, has been identified as the person killed in the shuttle bus accident on Sunday, November 20. The horrifying incident also injured 26 more students. Mark, 25, lost his life after the bus carrying the group returning to school from a hockey game at Northeastern University hit a tree and flipped over multiple times, according to the Waltham Police Department. .
“While Vanessa was currently on leave, she lived in Waltham and was an active and valued member of the Brandeis community,” University President Ron Liebowitz wrote in a letter. “We have been in contact with Vanessa’s family and will continue to be in contact with them in the coming days, keeping them informed about ways in which we will honor Vanessa’s memory.” Brandeis canceled classes Monday and Tuesday so students would have time to talk with their families before Thanksgiving.

Incident Detail
The university stated: “Given the tragedy our community is experiencing, Brandeis has canceled classes scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. This will allow some students to return to family and friends earlier than normal vacation hours would have allowed. For students who will remain on campus, we will have additional opportunities to come together and receive support.”
A school official stated: “Brandeis has notified students, faculty and staff about the accident; we are providing advice and support to the students and will continue to do so in the coming days,” ABC reported. The university announced that additional assistance will be available for students who choose to stay on campus during the week.
Authorities have not released the cause of the bus accident in Waltham and the severity of the injuries sustained. The bus that was part of the accident belonged to Joseph’s Transportation, a company based in Medford, Massachusetts, the university revealed. This transportation company has a fleet of 30 cars, according to federal data.
