According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, Shipman “lied his way to the secure facility.” The youths were removed from Shipman by quick-thinking camp employees, who immediately alerted police. He and the children were then rushed to the hospital. While Shipman was treated and turned over to authorities, the children are in stable condition, according to The US Sun.
The police claimed to have executed a search warrant at the father’s house and obtained information there. As of Thursday morning, Shipman was still in custody on $1 million bond. According to the Fresno Bee, the atrocity occurred when a science camp was taking place at the site. Previously, MEAWW reported on another incident in which Victoria Moreno, 34, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery after throwing her three-year-old nephew into Lake Michigan on September 19.
During her court appearance on Sept. 21, prosecutors said Moreno looked around her to see if anyone was watching as her 3-year-old nephew approached the edge of Navy Pier. She leaned down, took both of her hands in hers, and tossed him into the water. Prosecutors alleged in a court statement that Moreno then sat and watched her nephew drown.
“Not once during any of these events did the defendant yell for help, ask for help, ask for help, or attempt to help,” Deputy State Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “When the police arrived, the defendant pretended not to know anything about the child,” she added. The boy was in cardiac arrest when divers recovered him after a 30-minute search at the bottom of the lake.
Paramedics woke him up and transported him to Lurie Children’s Hospital, but he is not expected to survive, according to Scaduto. According to the boy’s family, the father has been unable to visit his son while he was a patient at Loyola Medical Center awaiting a heart transplant.
