The Office of the State Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit stated on Friday that Shawn Christopher Fitzgerald, 49, had been given a sentence of 35 years in prison.Investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children stating that a user on the KIK messenger app submitted a video of child sexual abuse material on February 20, 2020, according to a news release and probable cause affidavit from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Additionally, he served as the youth director at the Bartow, Florida, First United Methodist Church.Authorities said forensic examination of his iPhone revealed he regularly viewed material glorifying child sex abuse while conducting daily activities like teaching, serving as a youth minister, coaching, and participating in outings.

Fitzgerald was detained once more on Thursday at the Polk County Jail, according to jail records; he is being held for the prison system.
