Police have filed charges against a man who allegedly killed his autistic brother and assaulted his mother after an altercation in Reservoir on the morning of March 8. Shaun Sanderson was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. m. after a seven hour chase. His younger brother, Rileigh, 29, died at the scene while her mother, Catherine, 65, was in hospital after he stabbed her in the neck.
He was officially charged with murder and attempted murder on the morning of March 9, according to police, and will appear in court later that day. The court was told that Sanderson appeared to have a history of psychosis and that he may have had a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

According to his lawyer, the 32-year-old first refused to appear in court because he was concerned about the publicity the case had already received, according to MSN. “He has to go up,” replied Justice Olivia Trumble. “Whoever walks onto the pitch isn’t going to get anyone’s attention more than he already could be.”

Sanderson’s brother is believed to have fled the home to a local hospital, but ultimately died. When it was later established that Sanderson was not at the home, police issued an alert to locate him. Almost 2:40 p.m. m., more than seven hours later, Sanderson was arrested at a major crossroads near Preston Market. He was discovered near the house, walking barefoot and shirtless.
Authorities initially acknowledged that the parties knew each other, but withheld further information about his identities. The residence was occupied by a “lovely and beautiful family,” a neighbor told Nine News. The murder and assault are being investigated by the Homicide Squad.
