Scott Quinn Berkett 25-year-old man was recently found guilty of using Bitcoin to pay a hitman to kill a woman who broke up with him.

According to the US California Central District Attorney’s Office, on Monday, June 13, Scott Quinn Berkett was convicted of one-time use of interstate facilities to commit murder for hire.

According to the US California Central District Attorney’s Office, on Monday, June 13, Scott Quinn Berkett was convicted of one-time use of interstate facilities to commit murder for hire.

In 2020, Berkett met the female victim online and traveled to Los Angeles to meet her in October 2020. The woman said, “She had sex with Berkett but felt pressured to do it.” She also described Berkett’s behavior as “sexually offensive” and despite trying to break up with him after the trip, Berkett was allegedly “very possessive” and texting “constantly” on various social media platforms.

According to the prosecution, in April 2021 one of the woman’s family members reached out to Berkett’s father about Berkett’s communication with the woman. Berkett’s father reportedly took his phone and replied, “This matter is closed, sir.”

After the engagement in April 2021, the Law Firm said that Berkett used Bitcoin to pay for rental murder services “through a website on the darknet that allegedly offers such services.” He reportedly paid a total of $13,000 in Bitcoin for the services.

The prosecution said that an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a hitman contacted Berkett about a month later, in May 2021, and sent Berkett pictures of the female victim.

Berkett asked for proof that her ex had been murdered and told the undercover officer, “She has a distinctive tattoo on one of her forearms, which I know the image of, so a photo of her body and a photo of the tattoo for identification might work.” He reportedly made an additional $1,000 payment through Western Union.

According to KTLA-TV, Berkett was arrested in May 2021 and now faces up to 10 years in prison.
