The photo of the 81-year-old man, who was mauled to death by a pack of dogs that included pit bulls, has been released. Ramón Nájera, a native of San Antonio, died while trying to protect his 74-year-old wife from dogs when they broke free from a yard on February 26, 2023. However, Abilene Moreno, the wife of Christian Alexander, who is the owner of the dogs, he claimed that it was not his fault and that he had taken great care in raising the powerful breed.
She added that the dogs attacked people a couple of times before and were even confiscated by authorities before her children begged to be brought back. “We were coming back and I saw the dogs behind the door but they were full of blood,” Moreno told local channel KENS5. “It’s traumatizing to see my dogs that I’ve raised since they were puppies do that to someone,” she added.

Ramon Najera Cause of Death
“From the bottom of our hearts, we’re sorry, but my husband is not responsible,” she said as she apologized. She also added that they did everything they could to stop the dogs (King, Snow, and Legend) from escaping.
Christian Alexander, 31, was charged with an attack by a dangerous dog that caused death and injury to an elderly person, both felonies. Bail for him was set at $125,000 and Monero said he was trying to raise the money to get him released on bail.
The couple discovered their dogs were off their harnesses when they arrived home on Friday, February 24, and were informed by emergency services that their dogs had attacked four people and killed one. The dogs had been involved in two recent attacks, one involving King and two involving Snow. Monero. Despite the attacks, Moreno still claims that they were not bred to be aggressive.
“We never hit them, we neglect them, we never abuse them,” she said. The dogs were temporarily confiscated by Animal Care Services following the attacks in January. Monero stated that neither she nor her husband wanted the dogs back, but it was her children who did. “I thought, these dogs are not for us anymore,” she said.
Nájera’s grandchildren and his wife Janie shared a tribute to his grandfather and created a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs and medical bills for their grandmother’s injuries. “Ramon was a San Antonio native, a US Air Force veteran, and an adventurous, outgoing, and loving family man,” they wrote, adding, “He was recently on dialysis but was determined to enjoy life to the fullest despite your health condition.”
