A 30-year-old woman in Texas who was first thought to have been abducted after her husband was slain by a friend has been detained after police claim they found out she was having sex with the gunman and attempted to aid him in covering up the crime.
According to court documents analysed by Law&Crime, Maryann Demetro was detained on Monday and accused with one count of changing, destroying, or concealing a human corpse. The San Antonio Police Department claims that Demetro was “involved” in the death of her 50-year-old husband, Nick Hallam, who was allegedly shot dead on Sunday at a residence in the 4000 block of Medical Drive by 50-year-old Jose Carlos Alvarez.

Officer Ricardo Guzman, a SAPD spokesman, stated that Demetro made the original 911 call on Sunday about 9 a.m. and informed the emergency dispatcher that her husband had been “shot to death.” She apparently said she was being kidnapped as well. At a news conference on Monday, Guzman said, “She claimed that her husband was a victim who was shot inside an apartment and that the suspect who shot her the victim was also inside the apartment holding her against her will at gunpoint. ”
She was able to flee and phone the police, who then showed up and detained the shooter’s suspect (Alvarez). He was therefore detained that morning. Due to a gunshot wound to the neck, Hallam was declared dead at the spot. According to court documents, Alvarez is being held on a $225,000 combined bond after being charged with one count of murder and one count of changing, destroying, or concealing a corpse.
However, according to investigators, they quickly found proof that Demetro was not a victim but rather assisted her husband’s alleged killer in his cover-up efforts. Guzman claimed that “she actually helped the suspect try to remove the body from the flat.” She was discovered inside the flat clearing up evidence. So, armed with that knowledge, homicide investigators obtained a warrant for the alteration, destruction, or concealment of a human corpse.

The homicide investigators were able to arrest her before she boarded the plane because they tracked her down at the San Antonio Airport after walking that warrant. The suspected attempt to take Hallam’s body and delete forensic evidence was caught on security tape, according to investigators, and it did not appear that Demetro was helping Alvarez against her will.
Additionally, Officer Guzman stated that while investigators “know” Demetro and Alvarez “have some sort of relationship,” they were unsure of the specifics.Guzman said “it could be” in response to a question about whether the fatal shooting might have been brought on by “some kind of domestic love triangle.”
According to an affidavit of probable cause acquired by the San Antonio Express-News, Demetro informed first responders that she, her husband, and Alvarez were all inside Alvarez’s house consuming alcohol when Alvarez “suddenly shot and killed” Hallam.
However, after being apprehended, Alvarez allegedly told police that he shot Hallam in self-defense and that Demetro had attempted to assist in moving the body but failed because Hallam was too heavy for them to move. They are said to have failed to relocate the body in the hallway of the apartment complex before bringing it back to the flat, according to video from a neighbor’s doorbell camera.
Then, according to the police, Demetro can be seen outside the apartment by herself attempting to clean up blood. According to the News-Express, Alvarez also asserted that he had been having sex with Demetro for a period of time before shooting Hallam.
According to Demetro, Alvarez confessed to her that he only killed her husband because he loved her and wanted to be with her. Demetro reportedly told detectives this. According to jail records, Demetro is presently being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $45,000 bond.
