An unidentified man shot and killed five people, including his wife and two children, on Thursday, September 29, in McGregor, Texas. The man was reportedly shot by McGregor police before he was taken into custody and sent to hospital. Lori and Natalie Avilés were two of the victims in the killing spree, according to many family members who posted photos and condolences online. “A coward with a gun took the lives of my sister and my beautiful niece just for being outside of her own home,” Lori’s brother, Leon Olvera, shared on Facebook. “This feels like a bad dream, but our family is strong and we will continue to be strong for you, sister. Neighborhood residents reported hearing gunshots, and MISD informed parents and employees of what had occurred. “Rumors abound about what appears to be a horrific tragedy in our community,” McGregor ISD Superintendent James Lenamon said in a message as reported by The Sun. “There was a domestic disturbance that resulted in a shooting at McGregor this morning. As a result of that scare, MISD ‘locked down’ for about 15 minutes. Once we received clearance from MPD, the lockdown was lifted,” the confirmed message said.
