Following the release of her memoir ‘Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories,’ Kelly Ripa had a conversation with journalist Anderson Cooper about some of her little-known childhood memories on Thursday, September 29. She said her mother warned her about “getting killed” or “ending up in porn” when the New Jersey native expressed her dreams of going to New York.
She was inspired after her grandfather took her to a film set in New York when she was only 7 years old. However, her parents did not seem very impressed with this idea. He scared them off and they tried to express their concerns to Kelly. She recalled her mother, now 81, telling her she could be “killed” or “kidnapped” and that they would “put trash” in her arms. Kelly, who was not familiar with this jargon, did not understand what “garbage” meant. She tried to ask her meaning, but her mother kept insisting.

Kelly’s mother, Esther, said there were many girls like her who would be kidnapped as soon as they got off the bus and then made unrecognizable by having their hair cut off. The kidnappers would then turn them into “garbage junkies” and next thing they would end up in porn.
“My parents were like, ‘New York City? They’ll kill you. They’ll kidnap you,” Ripa said recalling the conversation with her parents, according to PEOPLE. Her mother said, “These girls like you [are] getting off the bus and they chlorinate you. They chlorinate you and then drag you into the bathroom.
They chlorinate you and put garbage on your arm.” Ripa later recalled her reaction: “I didn’t know what that was. I thought, ‘Trash on my arm?'”She then told Cooper that her mother said that the townspeople, “They’ll hook you to the garbage. And they’ll cut your hair so your parents won’t recognize you. porn!”
The Kelly and Ryan Show Host Book is a collection of her personal stories and childhood memories. The book also talks about her different roles in her life as daughter, wife and mother. Kelly has gained a lot of support and love through the way she identifies through the roles she elaborates on in the book.
