A teenage girl found her 40-year-old mother dead after she lay down with suspected food poisoning. On December 29, Kelly Gleeson went to bed at 6 p.m. after spending most of the day vomiting. Just an hour later, her 17-year-old daughter, Madison, found her unconscious.
Paramedics were called to the scene after the caretaker’s daughter along with her father Jerry made the discovery of her while at home, the Manchester Evening News reports. Gleeson was already dead when emergency services arrived and it was a month before paramedics revealed her mother’s cause of death. Kelly Gleeson reportedly died of a pulmonary embolism.

Pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot gets stuck in an artery in the lung and blocks blood flow to part of the lung. It often happens quickly and can be fatal if not treated quickly. According to the Mayo Clinic, in most cases, the blood clot begins in a deep vein in the leg and travels to the lung.
Prompt treatment to break the clot greatly reduces the risk of death through the use of anticoagulants, other medications, and emergency procedures. Compression stockings and physical activity can help prevent clots from forming in the first place.
Unexplained shortness of breath, chest pain, or fainting are typical symptoms of this condition. However, Kelly Gleeson was asleep when the attack occurred. Gleeson died just five years after her brother Daniel died of cancer. Her husband told the outlet that he was “absolutely devastated” after the ordeal.
“To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement. We had 22 wonderful years together, well, when I wasn’t bothering her. I was good at doing that,” said Kelly’s husband, Jerry Gleeson. ‘”I never stopped loving you and I always will. I promise I’ll take care of our little girl.

Gleeson’s sister, Jade Rothwell, created a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral, saying she wants to “give my sister the best send-off she deserves.” She described her as the “loveliest, most beautiful, caring person”, describing how she “screamed” when she received the tragic news.
The mother-of-five rushed to her sister’s house only to discover that paramedics were unable to revive her. Jade says that he’s been “alone and quiet” without her. “You truly were the light in every room. You never stopped making everyone laugh,” one of Gleeson’s friends wrote in a post the day after her death. “I always wished the best for everyone, it made me smile on some of my worst days without even knowing it.
You impacted so many people just by being you. I hope you found peace and I hope to God you can feel the love everyone is sharing today . I will always love you”. Gleeson’s family and loved ones gathered in Stockport on January 6 and released balloons in her memory.
