An elderly man was fatally stabbed in a lift at the NYCHA complex in a string of unprovoked stabbings that began in Brooklyn on Saturday. Police on Sunday released the name and mugshot of the person they are looking for in the case. Joevani Vale, 26, has been named as a suspect in the Saturday afternoon slashing of a woman in Boerum Hill, and according to police sources, he is also most likely responsible for the fatal stabbing at the Wyckoff Gardens complex, which is located less than three blocks away.

At Pacific St. and Third Ave., around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, police say Vale attacked first, punching a 47-year-old lady in the shoulder. He cut a 31-year-old lady in the right thigh on Nevins St. off of Dean St. around 1:30 p.m., according to the police. She was taken to Methodist Hospital by doctors in a stable state.
At roughly 2:20 p.m., police discovered the third victim, an 83-year-old male, dead in a lift at Wyckoff Gardens on Nevins St. close to Baltic St. He had sustained many stab wounds to his right arm and neck. According to police sources, Vale has three past offences on his record: an assault charge from September 2020, a forceful contact charge from February 2016, and a public lewdness charge from September 2015.
The public is being urged to assist the police in finding Vale. Police shared security footage of the suspect on Saturday before his identification was made public.
