A Ring Doorbell camera captured the moment a California man ambushed and killed his brother in front of his own Utah home before being fatally shot by police. Before setting his house on fire, Jeffrey Roberts, 66, shot his sister-in-law Jodi Roberts and his estranged brother Scott Roberts, 65.
The incident was connected to a “family matter,” according to law enforcement officials who spoke to DailyMail.com, although the entire circumstances are still being investigated. He returns shortly after with a shotgun and a duffel bag, which the police later found to be packed with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
After Roberts sparked a fire inside the residence, a fire alarm is then heard as the camera activates once more as the cops show up. The porch pillars have bullet holes in them. Roberts then fired a weapon while fleeing the scene. Roberts is instantaneously killed when he falls face-first into the porch after the police fire a volley of gunfire at him.
Body camera footage from the incident captures the home’s interior on fire, throwing up plumes of black smoke that prevented officers from entering right away to aid Jodi Roberts.
After the shooting, homes across the street were also covered in gunshot holes. According to Brandon Miles, the deputy chief criminal prosecutor for Weber County, the shooting was connected to a “family matter” that is still being looked into. It is also rumoured that investigators are looking into Roberts’ residence in California. How Roberts acquired the firearms and ammunition is currently unknown.
Jodi Roberts has since been discharged from the hospital, according to Miles, but the house is “uninhabitable” as a result of the fire. He said that no other suspects were wanted. As of Friday morning, Turner’s GoFundMe had raised $37,214, more than three times his $10,000 target.
