Ian Bairnson Cause of Death
The musician, who is from the Scottish town of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, was a part of The Alan Parsons Project from 1975 to 1990. They were joined by guitarist Ian, arranger Andrew Powell, bassist/vocalist David Paton, drummer Stuart Elliott, and singers Zenny Zakatek and Chris Rainbow when Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson came up with the music.
Ian performed a very well-known solo in Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights while he was a member of the Scottish rock group Pilots. But despite the song’s notoriety, he wasn’t actually a fan of the legendary solo – confessing in years to come that his hate for it was entirely ‘guitarist reasons’. When it was revealed that Ian had been diagnosed with a “progressive neurological condition,” he ceased performing back in 2018.
‘I and Ian’s family would like to make you know that he has been diagnosed with a progressive neurological illness which impacts his communication skills,’ it was disclosed in a statement uploaded to his facebook page. As a result, he will no longer perform in public, though he continues to play the guitar and piano every day for his private enjoyment.
We want to thank you for your continued support over the years and reassure you that he is otherwise in excellent condition and is being well-cared-for. In his private life, Ian had been married to Leila for 24 years this May; they had started dating two years before getting married. The couple doesn’t seem to have any children together, but they frequently posted images of their favourite pets, a dog named Dolly and a cat named Poppy, to social media.
