Parkersburg police announced Thursday that they have a person of interest in the investigation into the disappearance of Gretchen Fleming. However, the police do not publicly name or call that person a suspect. Fleming, 28, of Vienna, was last seen leaving a Parkersburg bar in early December. There is pressure for the police to solve the case as the month of the last time she was seen approaches.
“Detective J.M. Zimmerman was on duty on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. The holidays didn’t slow him down. He’s still full steam ahead,” Board Chief Matthew told Eyewitness News on Thursday. The board confirmed that the person of interest left My Way Lounge and Restaurant with Fleming until late at night on December 3 or in the early morning hours of December 4.

“I don’t want to get into how we can definitively determine that, but the fact is we can,” he said. Search warrants executed in connection with the case just before Christmas remain sealed, but multiple sources confirm to Eyewitness News that the person of interest is Preston Pierce, 55, of the Parkersburg area. Pierce has not been charged with any crime in connection with the case.
Parkersburg police confirmed Friday that early in the investigation, the person of interest told them that Fleming was in her car. He now refuses to speak to them, police said. Police also confirmed that the search warrants were for the person of interest’s vehicle, residence, electronic devices, and secondary locations that he or she might rent or own.

Since the inception of Gretchen’s missing report, My Way Lounge has really stepped up,” Board said. “Her staff her, her owner, and many of the customers that frequent that establishment.” At the bar, the owners said they are willing to do whatever they can to help bring Fleming home.
“The police contacted us and we immediately provided them with all the camera footage we had from that night to try and help them find her,” Meghan Evans, co-owner of My Way Lounge and Restaurant, told Eyewitness News.
Evans said the business put a candle in front of the window for Fleming. The show encourages other companies in the area to do the same. She also said that the bar has been working to increase security measures. We know that (in) downtown Parkersburg, a lot of the cameras don’t work as well, so we put up a couple more outside just to help,” Evans said.
Fleming recently moved home from North Carolina to live with his grandparents. She was 27 years old at the time of her disappearance and turned 28 on Christmas Eve. Parkersburg police said they have not stopped working to find Fleming since her family officially reported her missing on Dec. 12.
“Even though we don’t pitch a lot, it doesn’t mean we’re not working,” Board said. “It doesn’t mean we don’t know things. It’s just that it’s a process.” The board said that while they are currently investigating leads, they are also waiting for forensic evidence to be analyzed.
“Things have been collected. As standard, they are sent to the state laboratory for analysis and the results are only awaited there. That is common in many investigations, and when I come back, hopefully, it will be fruitful, but in the meantime, this is not So”. a waiting game Our detectives are continuing to pursue leads because, as I keep reiterating, the community has really stepped up.
