Ethan Chapin, a Sigma Chi member who died Nov. 13 along with three other University of Idaho students, was remembered with a scholarship announced Nov. 29. A college member of the fraternity will receive funds from the Ethan Chapin Memorial Scholarship Fund each year in remembrance of the murdered victim, Fox News reported.
Chapin was a freshman at the University of Idaho and a member of the Sigma Chi community. “We join the Gamma Eta Chapter in remembering a young man who was deeply loved and respected, as well as expressing our deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of Ethan, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen,” said Sigma Chi .

Foundation said in a statement. Approximately $57,000 of the $75,000 goal has been raised for the Ethan Chapin Memorial Scholarship Fund. A few blocks from Sigma Chi’s home, Chapin, 20, and his girlfriend Kernodle were spending the night at an off-campus apartment. Chapin, Kernodle, Goncalves and Mogen were fatally stabbed on Nov. 13 between 3 and 4 a.m., according to police.
The killer has yet to be identified or caught by the Moscow Police Department. After the disclosure of a new set of evidence, the description of the murder weapon was deemed to be a knife. The autopsy report revealed that the wounds on the victims’ bodies showed signs of intense stabbing that can only come from a sharp object.
Moscow police have already dismissed several suspects connected to the case and are open to considering new theories that may shed some light on the details of the mass murders. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased have been arranging cremation services as they mourn the terrible loss of losing a loved one.
The case is reportedly being investigated by a team from various departments, including the FBI. A memorial service was held last week in Chapin’s hometown of Mount Vernon, Washington, in honor of the triplet, whose two brothers are students at the University of Idaho. “Today, we’re here to honor the life and legacy of our son and brother, Ethan Chapin, one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met,” Stacy Chapin told Fox News off-service last week.
“Together, we want to extend our gratitude to the following: our neighbors… our extended family and friends who serve as beacons of strength and stand by our side at all times, the Moscow Police Department who now carry the charge every day not just for us, but for all the families affected.”
