Incident Detail
According to Granados, Gutierrez only had a “gunshot wound to an undisclosed part of her body.” Although Gutiérrez and Chacón were not living together at the time of the deadly kidnapping, there had been an increase in reports of riots and incidents of domestic violence in the preceding weeks.
According to authorities, Chacón is still at large and likely still carries a weapon. Gutierrez’s relatives said she did everything in her power to prevent Chacon’s abuse, including contacting his ex-wife. The woman, who is married to Chacón and has three children, stated that he repeatedly tried to kill her, but managed to keep her relationship alive.
According to Pasadena police, Chacon called her on Sept. 1 and accused Gutierrez of drunk driving while her shared son was in the car. When police arrived and determined that she was not drunk, Gutierrez allegedly accused Chacon of assaulting her a few days earlier.
Witnesses who called police Monday morning described seeing Chacon push Gutierrez into her own truck in front of her Pasadena home. On Monday night, police discovered her body inside the van. According to the police, she was shot and died.
Records indicate that in Harris County, Chacon has a history of abusing women dating back to 2012. In 2013, he was convicted twice for assaulting his ex-spouse and once for disobeying a protective order. In 2017, Chacón is accused of nearly suffocating her to death, one of two times her ex-wife said she tried to kill her.
According to KHOU*11, Chacón’s ex-wife claimed that Gutiérrez contacted her last month seeking help. She claimed that she advised him to end the relationship. Every woman’s plan is unique, according to the Houston Area Women’s Center, and it all comes down to safety planning.
“In almost half of the cases that ended in death, someone is trying to get out of the situation. People think when the relationship ends, the abuse is over. That’s not the case. The most dangerous time is when someone is trying to go”. said Sonia Corrales of HAWC.
Immediately before 10 a.m. m. Monday, Pasadena police received reports of a woman being forced into an SUV at gunpoint outside an apartment complex on Red Bluff Road near Beltway 8. Police said they were able to identify Chacon as the kidnapping suspect and Gutiérrez as the victim after speaking with witnesses.
Around 3 p.m. On Monday, investigators said Gutierrez’s body was found inside the abandoned pickup truck on Cedar Crest Street near the intersection of Mykawa Road and South Loop. The SUV appeared to have gone off the road and been abandoned at some sort of distribution center. Police said expressway barriers were stockpiled at the scene. And no weapons were found at the scene, according to investigators.
