According to jail records, Nelson was arrested for allegedly breaking the terms of his probation.Staly maintained that Nelson is the person of interest but did not rule out responsibility for the other adults living there. When asked about the other adults, including the victim’s biological mother, Staly responded, “It would be a lot easier if everybody told us the truth. The sheriff stated, “We have received two prior calls to this residence in 2023, one for a stolen vehicle and one for a 911 investigation. Since 2010, we have responded to 11 additional calls to this residence, the majority being civil service-related. These calls also included different follow-ups, a welfare check, and a warrant service.
The sheriff added that marijuana and a “white powdery substance,” possibly cocaine or heroin, were discovered in the residence, but he made it clear that authorities do not believe the shooting to be “drug-related at this point.” A tragic incident from 2021 involved a 2-year-old toddler who acquired access to a gun and murdered his mother while on a Zoom call. The gun owner was charged for leaving the gun out “without the supervision required.”
