An ex-Navy officer who was detained in an investigation into child exploitation last year entered a guilty plea on Friday to attempting to create child pornography. 33-year-old Christopher Paul Hetherington was detained in December while serving in Norfolk, Virginia. On the USS Ross at the time, he was a surface warfare officer.

Hetherington entered a guilty plea for attempting to produce child exploitation material. He has previously been accused of attempting to coerce and seducing a juvenile. According to court records obtained by WAVY-TV, Hetherington began talking with a person he believed to be underage in October.
The individual was in fact an NCIS agent from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.Hetherington allegedly regularly requested illicit images from the agent, who he thought was 14 years old. He allegedly described the sexual acts he wanted to have with the little girl in detail as well.
The suspect also set up a meeting with the individual. Instead, he was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail after being taken into custody at his house on December 22.The mandatory minimum punishment for Hetherington is 15 years, however the term might be increased to 30 years.
