On February 13, 2023, a mass shooting at Michigan State University (MSU) left three students, Alexandria Verner, Brian Fraser, and Arielle Anderson, dead. The tragic incident also injured five other people at the institute. According to NBC, the gunshots were first reported on the MSU campus at approximately 8:18 p.m. m., after suspected shooter Anthony McRae, 43, entered the facility.
He fled campus after shooting eight students and then killing himself during a standoff with Michigan authorities. CNN reported that the survivors of the shooting are currently in the ICU and are in critical condition. Four of the five victims require surgery, and some of the injuries are considered life-threatening. The names of the surviving victims have not yet been released.

According to The New York Post, Alexandria Verner, 20, was a student at Michigan State University in Clawson, Michigan. At the time of her death, she was studying Integrated Biology and Anthropology. She was supposed to graduate in 2024.
While her mother Nancy hers taught as an elementary school teacher in Clawson, her father Ted hers was a treasurer on the school board. In an official statement issued by Clawson High School, where Verner graduated in 2020, it was stated that she was known as an excellent athlete.
The Detroit Free Press reported that she was league MVP in basketball and volleyball, while she also played all-state softball. A former classmate said that his teammates on the school basketball team missed Alexandria Verner dearly. Billy Shellenbarger, superintendent of Clawson Public Schools, also addressed Verner’s death.
He mourned the loss of her and added that the members of the basketball team would miss her. In addition to her accomplishments in sports, Alexandria Verner was also a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Leadership Council. According to Fox, she hoped to pursue her interest in forensic science after completing her college degree.
