Amelia Giordano Incident Detail
Pine, then 11 years old, told his family about his suicide plan in October 2022 and explained that he intended to take his own life in a school bathroom. His mother brought him to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s emergency room, where he received hospital care and missed a week of school.Pine’s family and the school came up with a plan to stop unattended restroom visits as a result of her parents’ relentless attempts to make sure she was present enough.
But just one month before turning 12, Pine killed himself on January 9 in a restroom at Carpenter Elementary. His mother, Chandel, feels that the school failed to uphold the standard protocol and let him down. Giordano and another teacher were shown on camera footage by the family repeatedly peering into the boys’ bathroom over a 17-minute period without doing anything. The situation didn’t shift until the school principal entered the room because it was he who had found Pine.
Until he was evacuated to the hospital and declared dead, the director performed CPR. Giordano was charged for letting Pine, a young woman who had previously had suicidal ideation, use the restroom unattended. She is accused with misdemeanor child endangerment, which carries a potential year in jail and $1,000 in fines.
