According to Cornett, multiple confrontations broke out between participants in the day of beach jumping before the shooting started.

According to city officials, none of the injuries were life-threatening and are being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). According to authorities, numerous persons were questioned and jailed after the incident on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons.
Alexander Martin-Goods, 18, was detained and charged with illegal possession of a weapon, according to WCSC, which also reported that a youngster, whose name has not been disclosed, was also detained. Police were unable to confirm whether the two suspects who were detained took part in the shooting.
According to Cornett, other guns were also found on the beach. However, he was unable to specify whether or not they took part in the shooting.
