In connection with the death, the mother of a newborn found dead inside a cardboard box left in an empty field in Wisconsin earlier this month has been detained. According to court records obtained by Law&Crime, Santos Asucena Caseres Cruz was detained last week and accused with one crime of transporting, concealing, or burying the body of a child and one count of neglecting a kid that resulted in death.
Officers from the Whitewater Police Department responded to a report of a dead baby at the Twin Oaks Trailer Park, roughly 55 miles west of Milwaukee, at about 11 a.m. on March 4, according to a criminal complaint submitted to the Jefferson County Circuit Court.

By the use of forensic photography, investigators produced a picture of the shipping label with the address clearly visible. The person whose address was found was listed in the document as “Witness 1.”
In a police interview on March 24, Witness 1 stated that his father had mentioned that he thought Cruz, Witness 1’s mother, had an affair and conceived by a man who was not Witness 1’s father. Witness 1 stated that his father thought his mother had later had an abortion.
Cruz was questioned by investigators after that and claimed “she was not pregnant and did not conceal a newborn infant in a field,” according to the lawsuit. According to the affidavit, “She said she would never do that to a baby.” She claimed that her ex-abuse husband’s charges were unfounded.
Cruz allegedly consented to a vehicle and house search and gave authorities a buccal swab. “Witness 2,” a different Cruz child, reported to the police that her mother spent a considerable amount of time in the toilet on January 27 owing to stomach pain. Witness 2 reported that she thought her mother had been bleeding since there was so much blood.
She allegedly admitted to being pregnant and concealing the pregnancy from her family because the child’s father was not her husband in another interview with Cruz. She was afraid that if her family found out the truth, they would stop talking to her.
According to the complaint, “her kid had to have been alive when he was born, and she did nothing, therefore that is how he might have died.” “The infant began turning purple soon after birth. As the night wore on, his body began to become purple, followed by his face, arms, and hands. Never did she assist the infant. She was afraid that her children would find out she was pregnant, so she did not call 911.
Next, she hid the infant in the box under the sink cabinet, got it out about 4:30 a.m., and delivered it to a caravan park at approximately 6:00 a.m. She said, “Every day I checked on the box and sobbed.” Cruz was arrested, and her bond was set at $10,000. On April 4, she will make another court appearance for a preliminary hearing.
