An anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon on Thursday, October 19, struck and killed Omer Balva, an Israeli reserve soldier with dual citizenship in the United States. From Herzliya, Israel, Balva was a Staff Sergeant, according to the Israel Defense Forces. According to Fox News, the 22-year-old was a commander in the 9203rd Battalion of the Alexandroni Brigade.
Balva was born to Israeli parents and raised in Rockville, Maryland, where she attended the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day school. The young man was one of the 360,000 Israeli reservists summoned to duty in Israel as a result of the offensive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas that started on October 7.

On Saturday, October 21, Gallant addressed the troops at the 91st territorial division base of the Biranit camp, according to the Times of Israel. “Hezbollah has decided to participate in the fighting, we are exacting a heavy price from it,” Gallant stated.”I assume that the challenges will be greater [than they are now], and you have to take this into account, to be ready like a [coiled] spring for any situation,” said Gallant.
