A young boy’s life was cut short on Thursday, September 29 in Northern Ireland during a bike ride. Ollie Simmons-Watt from Limavady, Londonderry was reportedly enjoying cycling on Irwin Avenue when he was hit by a van. According to reports, the tragedy occurred around 3:40 p.m.
The five-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital but could not be saved. Now, law enforcement officials have urged people who “witnessed the incident or captured any dashcam or other footage to come forward.” The Irish News asked “witnesses or anyone with dash cams or other footage to contact via 101 and quote reference number 1235 from 09/29/22”.

Speaking about the accident, PSNI Sergeant Amanda McIvor said: “Shortly after 3:40 p.m. m., a pickup truck was reported to have struck a child in the area of ??Irwin Avenue. We believe at this time that Ollie was on his bike in the area at the time of the collision.”
“Officers attended along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance NI, and the boy was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly died of his injuries. The road, which was closed for a while after the collision, has since been reopened,” she added. SDLP East Derry Assemblywoman Cara Hunter said:
“I can’t begin to imagine what his family is going through, but they have my deepest condolences and I hope they are comfortable with the outpouring of support at this terrible time.” Furthermore, a spokesperson for his local community center said: “Ollie’s smile was contagious and he was full of character.
He kept everyone entertained at whatever activity he participated in, and will be sorely missed by his friends, management, staff and volunteers at RVRA. We convey our condolences and condolences to Ollie’s mom and dad; his brother and sister and the wider family circle at this very difficult time.”
