A Minnesota woman was shot to death outside her workplace by a co-worker after she repeatedly rebuffed his unrelenting romantic advances. Michael Jordan Carpenter, 36, was charged with felony second-degree murder for allegedly shooting his co-worker, Nicole Hammond, 28, in the parking lot of his workplace on Lincoln Avenue Northeast in St Cloud.
A police team was dispatched to the business’s parking lot after receiving an emergency call about the shooting. Officials say the shooting took place before 7:00 a.m. m. on Monday, October 24. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Hammond lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her neck. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but Hammond was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the autopsy, obtained by the Kansas City Star, the suspect shot her in the right side of her neck, but the bullet was found in her left shoulder area. A lone shell casing was also recovered from the crime scene. Witnesses at the scene told investigators the suspect shot Hammond as she was getting out of her vehicle. Carpenter, 36, fled the scene but was located about three hours later hiding in a home near Sauk Rapids.
Police also seized a firearm in his possession. The gun was loaded with the same shells that were found near Hammond’s body. However, Carpenter has denied all allegations. He told officers that he was walking toward Hammond’s car when he heard the shot. The alleged killer also claimed that he fled the scene because he was “too traumatized” after seeing blood around Hammond’s body.
“He did not render assistance, did not go to work or call 9-1-1,” police said. Criticizing Carpenter’s claims, prosecutors said he was harassing his co-worker for a long time. Hammond also allegedly asked Carpenter “not to do the awkward stuff at work,” prosecutors said, citing text messages recovered by investigators. Hammond’s co-workers, who described Carpenter as “moody”, revealed that Carpenter had made several unwelcome advances.
In recent months, but the harassment was never reported to his superiors. During police questioning, Carpenter admitted to arguing with Hammond the night before the barbaric shooting. He is currently being held in the Benton County Jail and has not been arraigned, according to online jail records. Information from Carpenter’s attorney was not immediately available.
