According to recently released video, the former graduate student at the University of Arizona who is accused of killing a professor made a terrifying confession after police stopped questioning him. Last year, as detectives took a break from interviewing Murad Dervish, 47, regarding the deadly shooting of Professor Thomas Meixner hours earlier, he was caught on camera muttering to himself.
Dervish responds with what appears to be a malicious smirk, “Well, at least I finished my mission. According to CBS 5, the statement will probably be used in court by the prosecution to prove premeditation in the murder of the U of A professor on October 5, 2022 because the purported confession was made after the suspect was informed of his Miranda rights.

On the Tucson campus, where Dervish had been banished and prohibited from visiting, Meixner, 52, the head of the school’s Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, was shot. Following Meixner’s death, numerous people inside the John W. Harshbarger Building can be seen rushing or crouching for cover in new video from the shooting day.
Before authorities rushed the hallways and examined every door in the building in search of the culprit and individuals to evacuate, someone could be seen peering out from behind a door to make sure the beach was clear. According to prior statements made to The Post by officials, police were already en route to the building because they had been asked to remove Dervish, who was prohibited from entering the school.
Dervish, however, had already escaped and was allegedly attempting to reach Mexico when authorities located him more than a hundred miles away from the institution in Gila Bend. Dervish resisted speaking with police during questioning, but the new video also shows that he was apart from them. One of the cops mentions to him at one point that “they have quite a bit of evidence, and I think you know what that evidence is.”
The suspect responds, “Well, it’s a shame we can’t talk.” We appear to share a lot of interests. Live in San Diego and attend the U of A. Dervish informs the police that they will eventually hear his side of the story in court after the officer informs him about the gun that was discovered in his car. According to ABC 9, Dervish is due to have a mental health evaluation in August in an effort by the defense to have him declared mentally insane before the start of his trial in September.
