He is remembered as a rising star whose career was on the verge of exploding, even as he also faced criminal charges related to the alleged assault of an ex-girlfriend. Authorities said Onfroy suffered multiple gunshot wounds after the convicted murderers shot him while he was behind the wheel of his BMW, which was parked outside a RIVA Motorsports store in Deerfield Beach.

Prosecutors say Boatwright was the gunman and Newsome was accused of pointing a loaded gun at people inside the BMW. Williams was driving the getaway vehicle and remained inside the van when the shooting took place, according to testimony heard in court.
A fourth man, Robert Allen, 26, was previously arrested and charged in connection with Onfroy’s murder. Allen pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in August last year and later testified on behalf of the prosecution in court as the trial’s first witness. He could still face a life prison sentence for his alleged role in the murder.
The prosecution built its case around the allegation that the violent robbery that preceded Onfroy’s death was carefully planned. Prosecutors told juries in Broward County that the three suspects on trial had devised a plan the day before the June 17 Deerfield Beach shooting that involved renting a vehicle and traveling through the area to commit several robberies. They allegedly saw Onfroy leaving the parking lot of the motorcycle shop, where they intended to purchase a face mask, and decided to attack him, prosecutors said.
