McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, a talented musician and beloved son of acclaimed actor Gary Sinise, passed away at the age of 33 on January 5. His death came after a courageous battle with a rare form of spinal cancer known as Chordoma.
The heartbreaking news was shared by his father, Gary Sinise, on both Instagram and the official website of the Gary Sinise Foundation, where he penned a touching tribute to his son.
The Battle with Chordoma
Gary Sinise revealed that Mac had been diagnosed with Chordoma on August 8, 2018. Chordoma is an exceptionally rare type of cancer that originates in the spine, affecting only around 300 individuals in the United States each year.
Despite undergoing numerous surgeries and treatments, Mac’s condition deteriorated over time, ultimately leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.

Despite his health challenges, Mac’s spirit remained resilient. He was an integral part of the Gary Sinise Foundation, actively contributing as an assistant manager of education and outreach.
