A man has been charged in connection with the murder of his elderly mother, who died of head injuries in a sleepy Cotswolds market town. Matthew Corry, 45, is in custody on charges of murdering Beatrice Corry, who was 84. Gloucestershire Police, who had been granted a 12-hour custody extension to interview Corry after his arrest, confirmed that he had been charged this afternoon.
He will now appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on Monday. Police were called to the High Street in Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds at around 12:30am on Friday 6th January, after an elderly woman was found with head injuries. She later died from her injuries.

Police said a man she knew was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken in for questioning. Gloucestershire Police said in a statement today: ‘A man has been charged in connection with the death of an elderly woman in Chipping Campden yesterday.
‘Matthew Corry, 45, of the High Street in Chipping Campden, was charged today with the murder of his mother Beatrice Corry. Police had been called to her Chipping Campden home at 12:10 yesterday, where Beatrice, 84, was found with head injuries, from which she later died.
Corry has been taken into custody and is due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on Monday 9 January. Posts on the village’s local Facebook group ‘Chipping Campden Notice Board’ paid tribute to Ms Corry, who was apparently well known in the village.
Local residents in the picturesque town have said they are “shocked” by the killing when police spoke to them yesterday to reassure them after the incident. Yesterday, two police cars were present on the street as plainclothes detectives and uniformed officers spoke to local businesses to alert them to the incident.
An elderly local business owner described the victim as an “absolutely lovely lady, well known to the residents here in town” and said she was “shocking and extremely sad to be killed”. Other residents have expressed surprise that the incident took place in such an unlikely location.
Another local resident said: ‘I didn’t even know about the murder until this morning when my sister texted me about it after seeing it on the news. “I’ve seen people post on social media about the victim, but no one says anything about who she was or what happened.”
Another local business owner said: “Some people seem to know who she was and have been posting tributes saying she was ‘such a nice lady’ etc but other than that we’ve only spoken to the police.”
‘It’s a shock to Campden, it’s a terrible shame it was someone she knew. I feel for the family, we are a pretty tight-knit community. “My kids went to school here, so you worry that you’ve met the family or even met them.”
Another local resident added: ‘I’ve only heard gossip. It’s really weird, I hope we find out more in a few days. Police said members of the public can provide information online by completing the form on their website and citing the Jan. 8 incident. They added that people with information can also call the police on 101.
