Authorities in St Clair County, Alabama, accused Marcus Spanevelo, 35, of abusing the body of his ex-girlfriend Cassie Carli, 37. Cassie Carli was found in a shallow grave after she went to a restaurant in the Florida Panhandle to pick up her daughter from Marcus. Carli was last seen in the restaurant’s parking lot on March 27. Her father reported her missing the next day.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested Marcus in April on charges of tampering with and destroying evidence and giving authorities false information about a missing person.However, he has not been charged with the murder of Cassie Carli because the reason for her death is still unknown. She is said to have a connection to the property on Highway 11 in Springville, where police discovered her body on April 3. Her car was found uninjured behind the restaurant where she went to meet him and his daughter, Saylor.

According to the Trussville Tribune, St Clair County District Attorney Lyle Harmon said of the case: “First and foremost, our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Cassie Carli. A massive investigation is currently underway. about the death of Cassie Carli and involves three states and their respective state agencies.” He added: “These agencies continue to work tirelessly with each other for the common goal of justice.
I appreciate the effort that the Florida State Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office in Santa Rosa County, Florida are investing in finding out who and what caused Cassie Carli’s death. According to Fox News, prosecutors said Marcus agreed to return to Alabama to stand trial. It is not yet clear if he has an appointed attorney.
