A 50-year-old Colorado woman has reportedly been arrested for attempting to kidnap a young child from a mother at a Walmart. Kimberli Jones was taken into custody by the Alamosa Police Department on Thursday, February 9, when she attempted to snatch a child from a shopping cart inside the store in Alamosa, Colorado. Jones was arrested on charges of kidnapping, felony threatening, child abuse and disorderly conduct. conduct, the department reported.

The incident occurred when suspect Jessica Vega attempted to take a shopping cart with a girl sitting in child seat. The distraught mother screamed in horror when she realized that Vega had left with her son. When confronted, Vega reportedly told her mother, “Just because she’s yours doesn’t mean she can’t take her with me.”
The girl was rescued only after witnesses and store employees came to her mother’s aid. Vega was later arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping. It was later revealed that prior to her arrest, Vega was convicted of faking a cancer diagnosis to con people out of thousands of dollars to pay for her dream wedding and honeymoon, Ksat reported. Vega pleaded guilty after spending several months in an Orange County, New York, jail and was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution.
