Kaelah Marlow Wiki – Kaelah Marlow Biography

Chilling new details have emerged about the death of a 19-year-old Australian teenager, who suffered “massive, unsurvivable blood loss” after being attacked by a great white shark. Kaelah Marlow, 19, was enjoying her time in the water with her friends at Waihi Beach in New Zealand’s North Island on January 7, 2021, when a 2.8-inch great white shark meters attacked her.

The teenager was attacked shortly after her friends returned to shore because they felt the current had become too strong. Lifeguards managed to rescue her from her and bring her back to shore, but were unable to save her life. Now, a year and a half later, coroner Michael Robb ruled on Wednesday, November 16, that there was nothing lifeguards could have done to save Marlow’s life, as he had suffered “massive, unsurvivable blood loss.”

Incident Detail

due to a “massive bite.” . The coroner’s report indicated that lifeguards were monitoring the group and then made the decision to launch a rescue boat to pull Marlow out of the water after her friends returned to shore. The report added that the young woman was only 300 to 400 meters away when the rescue boat was launched and she did not even appear distressed or in “obvious difficulty”.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Marlow was suddenly attacked by a shark before lifeguards could reach her. One of Marlow’s close friends told the coroner that she was concerned when she saw that Marlow was “panicking.” “Kaelah was really terrified and was waving her arm around in the water before they put her on the boat,” the friend said.

The coroner said Marlow was alive, conscious and screaming “shark” when rescuers rushed to save her. “She [a lifeguard] saw a lot of blood in the water and the woman was screaming that she had been bitten by a shark,” the report says. Lifeguards then loaded her onto the rescue board and carried her back to shore. “Lifeguards put her on the boat and quickly transported her to shore and called for help.”

The attack was described as a “single massive bite.”A male witness, who was not part of the group, described seeing someone in the water “and something in the water around the person, which he thought at the time was algae or  other people. He then watched from shore as lifeguards pulled an inert body out of the water towards the IRB and immediately returned to the beach.”

The man even helped lifeguards bring the boat to shore and pressed on the jaw wound on Marlow’s right thigh until a tourniquet was applied. But despite the tireless efforts of lifeguards and her friends, Marlow succumbed to her injuries on the beach. “The woman was making noises but she was not responding to the voices and she appeared to be having a small seizure,” the coroner found.

One lifeguard recalled the time they arrived in Marlow on an IRB and heard her “start to scream and scream. She saw a lot of blood in the water and the woman was screaming that she had been bitten by a shark. They could see that she had suffered a massive bite to her right leg. She lost consciousness when they drove the boat towards the shore.

“It was likely that Marlow had already suffered massive, unsurvivable blood loss by the time lifeguards arrived and pulled her out of the water,” Coroner Robb said. “I conclude that the lifeguards were appropriately assuming their responsibilities to watch Kaelah and were already actively taking steps to control her when she sustained her fatal injury.”

The coroner gave recommendations to help prevent or reduce the risk of serious injury or death from shark attacks. “Shark attacks are rare, but when carried out by a great white shark, the attack is likely to be fatal,” the report read.
