An elderly woman was viciously robbed and left injured in her own home in Pakefield, Suffolk, and two adolescent males, aged 14 and 15, have been detained on suspicion of murder. Two masked men broke into Joy Middleditch’s home last Friday night and forced their way inside, pushing the 82-year-old woman to the ground and leaving her there.
The next day, family members discovered her after her handbag was taken, and they alerted the police. Middleditch was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, her injuries caused her death on Monday. According to the Daily Mail, the police opened an inquiry on Friday and detained two teenage lads on suspicion of murder.

On Monday, a post-mortem examination was performed, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. According to Suffolk Police, on Saturday, March 25, “officers were contacted just after 1.50 pm to claims that an elderly woman had been found laying on the floor in her home in Grayson Avenue following a robbery.” Police think the incident took place on March 25 between late Friday and early Saturday morning.
“After being discovered conscious and in a critical condition, the victim was brought to James Paget Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, the woman passed away at the hospital early on March 27.” According to a Suffolk Police news release, the 15-year-old kid and a 14-year-old boy, both from the Lowestoft area, were detained on suspicion of murder and sent to Martlesham Police Investigation Center for questioning.
Joy was described by the family as “a strong, resolute character who loved life and her dog” in a statement that was published by the site. Middleditch had through two divorces due to disease. Her family characterised her as a wonderful individual who tragically left them too soon. Rebekka Arnold, her great-niece, appealed to the public on Facebook for assistance in finding the murderers.
