Unaware of her pregnancy, a teenage mother has described how she gave birth in a stranger’s bathtub and then had to bite the baby’s umbilical chord. After unexpectedly developing excruciating cramps while alone with her dogs in Anchorage, Alaska, Journey Richardson, now 18 years old, decided to take a bath in an effort to relieve them. However, the discomfort persisted, and when she knelt down to investigate, she was startled and shocked to feel a baby’s head.
Later, the newborn emerged face down, according to the then-17-year-old, and Journey reminded DailyMail.com that her child was vivid purple and not breathing. She had to give her infant daughter mouth-to-mouth care for five minutes before she was able to successfully revive the boy, who she has now named Finn. In an interview with DailyMail.com, Journey described how even after discovering she was in labor, she felt like she “physically couldn’t push. baby] out.” She recalled being “really confused” by the excruciating contractions because she knew they were “not normal.” The baby’s head was pressing against Journey’s spine and tailbone, causing her to feel “back pain,” which she subsequently discovered to be lower back pain.

Once her infant was confirmed to be alive,Journey was left thinking, ‘Here I am in a stranger’s bathtub with a baby.’She claimed that when she was giving birth, the dog she was looking after for her lingered by the bathtub and kept approaching to kiss her face.
But even after she succeeded in resuscitating her infant, she still had to deal with the umbilical cord. The new mother claimed that she was compelled to bite it herself because she didn’t have any medical tools to cut it. When asked why she waited until two hours after giving birth to call 911, Journey admitted that she was anxious about doing so because her father was a first responder.
She admitted that her dad “has always been my best friend” and that she was unsure of her reaction. The kid eventually called her parents, but they were both watching television and didn’t pick up. Instead, in a coded text message, Journey informed them both that something terrible had happened and that she was en route to the hospital.
Journey was taken to the hospital’s emergency room by the fire department, when she finally got in touch with her parents. Congratulations Grandpa, you’re both healthy, said the firefighter on the other end of the phone as Journey’s father picked up. The mother of Journey was equally as astonished to learn that her daughter had given birth to her at such a young age. Journey, a 5-foot-2 man, weighed 110 pounds at the time.
When her parents showed up at the hospital, they demanded to see the newest member of the family. “I didn’t even think staying with Finn would be an option,” Journey remarked. “But when my parents asked to see her, I realized she could.” “I never imagined wanting children… Really, I didn’t like kids.
She added that she worried she wouldn’t “do a good job as a mother” and that if she couldn’t provide the best life for a child, she would never want to have one. Having had Finn, though, Journey claimed that “the first time I saw Finn, I would have done everything in my power at the time to save her.” The delighted mother, who is 18 now, said that her entire family cares for the baby and that Finn’s father is still involved in her daughter’s life.
Despite minor scarring when she gave birth and the placenta tore through her lining, Journey has not experienced any long-term health issues as a result of her unassisted childbirth. Klippel-Feil syndrome, which happens when two or more neck vertebrae fuse together from birth, is an uncommon illness that Finn was born with.
Finn is an even more unusual instance because all seven of his vertebrae are fused together. Klippel-Feil syndrome patients may have restricted movement in their short necks. In his closing remarks, Journey declared that he “loves Finn very much” and that they are now a “happy family” with their dogs and cat.
