Athena Brownfield’s biological mother has been detained for allegedly abandoning her two small children in the care of Alysia Adams and Ivon Adams before going missing for more than a year. Athena was a 4-year-old Oklahoma girl who was beaten to death while residing with a relative and her husband last year. According to court records analysed by Law&Crime, Jasmin Adina Kay Brownfield was detained on Friday and charged with two charges of child negligence by abandonment.
As one of Athena’s relatives, according to the authorities, Alysia Adams and her husband, Ivon Adams, were detained in January, not long after Athena went missing and was later discovered dead. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), the mail carrier discovered Athena’s sister by herself after noticing that she “wasn’t where she was supposed to be”. She then called the police to report her discovery. Soon after, authorities learned that there was still another little child missing, so they asked OSBI for assistance in finding Athena.
Ivon Adams and Alysia Adams were purportedly granted custody of Brownfield’s girls in a handwritten note that she allegedly signed a year and a half prior, according to reports made by Brownfield two days after Athena vanished.
According to KOKH, no formal court documents were submitted to transfer guardianship or to enable the Adamses to enrol the kids in school or get them medical care. According to the affidavit, “[Brownfield] did not want [her children’s biological father] to have the girls due to his mental condition and prior allegations of abuse against him.”

The statement stated that when Brownfield finally called, the kids “did not seem interested” in conversing with her. Authorities said that a girl’s body had been found on January 17, 2023, after Alysia Adams admitted to witnessing her husband beat Athena to death on Christmas Eve 2022. The girl was later identified as Athena. .
Authorities stated that “Alysia admitted” that “Ivon struck [Athena] and held her arms on December 25, 2022, about midnight that night. “[Athena] wasn’t moving, and she had hardly opened her eyes. He then placed her on the ground and struck her in the chest at least three more times. After that, [Athena] didn’t move again.
Authorities reported that when the man returned, “he told Alysia that he buried her near a fence next to her former residence in Rush Springs.” He told her that he covered the burial site with a sizable broken branch. Currently, according to documents, all three of the adults are being held at the Caddo County Jail.
