The Edinburgh teenager’s friends and family have come together to pay tribute to him after his sudden death at the age of 14. Jack Pollock was a promising and highly talented young man who was also a loving son and brother. He had been on vacation with his mother and his brother in Portugal, when the tragedy occurred on Thursday, September 29.
Pollock was fondly remembered by his friends, family, and school. His father, Darryl, said: “He was really passionate about his boxing. Even on his days off, he would run and always give 150%, Jack wouldn’t let up. I will say one thing about Jack and that is the fact that he was a protector. All of his friends would come to him if they had a problem as he was their rock,” according to Edinburgh Live.

Pollock was a student at the Royal High School in Clermiston. His local boxing club in Granton remembers him as a kid “full of ideas and mischief” and an emerging athlete. A fundraiser has been organized to cover the costs of the funeral and to ensure that his body returns from Portugal.
“With a passion for boxing, he dedicated himself to training and being the best. He loved CDT and history,” the fundraiser reads, adding, “We are trying to raise money to help Jack’s mother to cover the upcoming expenses. We know no amount of money will bring Jack back, but if we can help ease the pressure and take some of the burden off the family, we’ll do our best.”

Speaking about his son’s achievements, Darryl said: “If you ever needed anything, he would be the first to run out of the house and help you. He also loved his music, but his passion was hanging out with his friends. He was at that stage of teenager where they hung out all the time and were cheeky.
Sometimes he was a pain in the ass getting home on time, if you know what I mean.” David Barclay, trainer for the Granton Amateur Boxing Club, wrote on Facebook: “On behalf of myself and everyone at the Granton amateur boxing club, we would like to share our deepest condolences with Jack’s family with a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat.”
His emotional post goes on to talk about Jack’s love of boxing, and that everyone would agree that he “had the heart of a lion.” Barclay said that Jack would have gone far in the boxing world. “Jack, you were never a member, you were part of the little family. May God give you the best bed in heaven and may everyone keep Jack’s family in their thoughts and prayers. Rest easy little champ,” his post read.
