According to his arrest warrant, a 22-year-old man who shot and killed his girlfriend early on Wednesday did so because she recently had an abortion. Police were called to a shooting complaint outside of the Church’s Chicken on S. Walton Walker Boulevard around 7:40 a.m. on May 10.
Officers discovered 26-year-old Gabriella Gonzales dead from several gunshot wounds when they arrived. Police discovered during their investigation that Gonzales and her boyfriend Harold Thompson had a fight before the shooting.

Thompson and Gonzales were seen on nearby security footage strolling before he tried to choke her. Gonzales then dismissed Thompson, according to the warrant, and they continued to go forward. Thompson took out a gun and shot Gonzales once in the head as they continued to walk through the parking lot. Gonzales was shown on video collapsing to the ground as Thompson fired “multiple more shots” at her before running away.
Gonzales recently travelled to Colorado for an abortion, according to authorities, and returned the previous evening. They think Thompson was the child’s father and that he opposed Gonzales having the surgery. Since then, Thompson has been detained and is facing murder charges.
