Frank Tartaglia Cause of Death
The death of the writer, director, comedian, painter, singer and arts enthusiast who initially rose to fame in show business as a child has sparked a great deal of grief and remembrance online. He was praised for his inexhaustible creativity, kind disposition and sociable demeanor, as well as his candor about the difficulties of leading a creative life and his unwavering support for others who followed the same path.
The Pennsylvania Burial Company made a public announcement of Tartaglia’s passing on Thursday, November 24, 2022. His death follows the death of his brother, Joseph Tartaglia, who died in 2013, aged 44, after a battle of six months against brain cancer. “That spirit, that energy, the color that they brought to the whole neighborhood, is irreplaceable,” said Peter Pelullo, who co-owns the Ric Rac with Frank and Joseph Tartaglia.
The club closed for good in 2021 during the pandemic. “There will never be another Frankie, the whole spirit of him was creative.” Frank wrote for Squirt TV on MTV when he was still a teenager. South Philadelphia served as the backdrop for the 1998 independent film “Punctuality,” which Frank and Joseph also co-produced. It was shown at film festivals.
James Doolittle, a Philadelphia producer and long-time friend, said, “He was endlessly fascinating, a Dickens character fresh out of South Philly, full of playful self-awareness and an inexhaustible ability to help amplify the creative spark of hundreds of dreamers who came in and out of Connie’s Ric Rac over the years. “He was the best audience ever,” added his oldest childhood friend, Jordan Shapiro.
