Edgar Ismalej-Gomez, 26, has been charged with violating probation in another case; however, the murder charges are pending as of now. Bail for him has been set at $3 million. Police have not yet determined the exact date of the child’s death. Authorities revealed that Liam reportedly had multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. Local police officers made a shocking discovery Monday in Cummings Park, Stamford, when they found a plastic bag covered in fresh soil. The remains of 2-year-old Liam were found in the bag. The same has been confirmed by Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw at a press conference.
The chief medical examiner cited the boy as having multiple blunt force traumatic injuries to the head and ruled his death a homicide. The suspect has been identified as the victim’s father, 26-year-old Edgar Ismalej-Gomez, who allegedly murdered him and dumped his remains in a local park. Law enforcement officials arrested him Tuesday around 1:30 a.m. local time; however, he has yet to be charged with murder.
This isn’t the first time Edgar has been caught hurting his son. In July 2021, he was convicted of breaking Liam’s arm. The boy’s parents later claimed that he had fallen and injured himself. However, the doctors mentioned that the fracture was caused by someone twisting his arm. Edgar Ismalej-Gomez was sentenced to serve three years probation and 60 days in prison.
After the 2021 incident, Gomez was barred from seeing his son. However, he allegedly had been living with his son and the boy’s mother for the past several weeks. Therefore, Edgar Ismalej-Gomez also faces charges of violating probation. Aside from the alleged murder of the little boy; Gomez has also been accused of holding Liam’s mother at gunpoint. He reportedly did not let her call for help after the child died, instead putting her remains in a plastic bag. .
According to Michelle Manning, the supervising state’s attorney, authorities discovered that Liam was possibly found dead after Gomez went to his room. She reportedly then prevented the boy’s mother from obtaining medical assistance for Liam. In 2021, he was charged with risk of injury to a child and third degree assault. As mentioned above, Edgar’s bail is set at $3 million. To this, Edgar’s lawyer mentioned that he is not employed and cannot pay such a high amount. Edgar Ismalej-Gomez will make his next court appearance on February 8, 2023.
