Don Lemon returned to the show on Monday, February 6, wearing a black suit almost identical to the one from the music executive’s party on Saturday, but with a dark green tie instead of a black bowtie. The host began the show by reporting on the tragic earthquake in Turkey before turning it over to Kaitlan Collins, who covered the Chinese spy balloon story.
When actor Kal Penn joined the three on the set and co-host Poppy Harlow began interviewing him, the two presenters seemed wary of interfering with each other’s reporting and didn’t engage much. Penn highlighted his new climate change-focused series, “Getting Warmer,” in which he also serves as a former Obama administration White House aide.
Harlow mentioned Penn’s upcoming introductory concert on March 13 of ‘The Daily Show,’ and Lemon commented, “I can’t wait for our guest appearance on the show!” before he finished the segment. Harlow jokingly asked Lemon and Collins, who were smiling, ”

According to sources, Lemon, who recently had his own now-defunct primetime show, has had trouble sharing the spotlight with Collins and Harlow. “Don has an intractable ego,” said a source close to both CNN chief Chris Licht and Lemon. “My understanding is that he wants the show to be about him. I don’t know how you go about that. It’s a very difficult situation.”
