Andrew Burfield and Katie Kenyon Wiki – Andrew Burfield and Katie Kenyon Biography
A man has finally admitted to killing his ex-partner with an ax after denying the allegations for months. Andrew Burfield, 50, had his guilty plea changed three days after the trial in the death of Katie Kenyon on Wednesday, November 16. The 33-year-old woman’s body was discovered in a makeshift grave in Gisburn Forest in Forest of Bowland. Previously, she was declared missing on April 22.
In August, Burfield, who is from Burnley, initially told the court that he had not killed his ex-partner. However, the prosecution argued that he had murdered Kenyon before burying her in a shallow grave. On Wednesday, the jury returned for the third day of the trial. Tim Storrie KC, Burfield’s defense attorney, asked Burfield to retry him. He confessed and told the court that he was “guilty” when asked if he had killed Kenyon.

Andrew Burfield and Katie Kenyon Incident Detail
Burfield said he and Kenyon were on a picnic when Kenyon went missing. There, he claimed that she had challenged him that she could not hit a coke can on him with her hatchet. According to Lancashire Live, Burfield told authorities that he decided to throw the ax into a tree because he thought it would “take his arm off.” He later said that the gun struck Katie in the head, killing her immediately with a single blow.
“I went through the tree to the side of her and hit her on the head,” he said according to the BBC. Burfield’s claims were catechized by prosecution after a Home Office pathologist said Kenyon’s body was found with at least 12 blows to the skull. Her body was recovered a week after her disappearance. Her body was hidden so well under leaves and twigs in a shallow grave that forensic experts found it very difficult to detect.
Police discovered her body after Burfield went to the crime scene and pointed out the area where her body was. Apparently, Kenyon had sent Burfield a message saying that she was “ready and excited for a new chapter” on the morning of her death. It was a premeditated murder as Burfield had already prepared the grave the day before killing her.
Burfield spent just over 42 minutes in the woods, according to the prosecution, where he killed her and buried her body. Before going into the woods, they were caught on security cameras traveling in their Ford Transit and stopping at McDonalds. Justice Goose will sentence Burfield at 10 am on Thursday, November 17.
