Amber-Leah Valentine Incident Detail
Three days later, officers said they responded to Anson Smith and Indian Canyon Road in Kingman after the body of a man wrapped in a blanket was found behind a stone wall. “It’s a very busy place, so putting the body there was very strange,” an official with the sheriff’s office told KPHO-TV about the allegations.
Meanwhile, investigators were searching for answers about how the teen died. A break in the case came on March 2, when Valentine called the sheriff’s office and claimed that she had just released a 14-year-old who she claimed was being held captive by Valentine’s roommates, Pounds and another person, according to the release.
Both Valentine and the 14-year-old boy were taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center. The sheriff’s office alleged that Valentine confessed that she and her husband, Imes, had dumped the body of her 16-year-old son at the location where deputies recovered her remains.
“She admitted that she lied to deputies when they reported him as a fugitive and acknowledged that she was already deceased at the time of the report,” the statement said. “During cross-examination, Jon Imes admitted to disposing of his son’s body and lying to officers about his escape.” and explained that this was one of many times he had experienced abuse in the home, according to the sheriff’s office.
The boy is now in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety, authorities say. Agents said they arrested and charged Valentine and Imes after serving a search warrant at the couple’s home. Investigators also questioned the roommates, but only Pounds was charged.
More charges are expected to be filed after final autopsy results determine the teen’s cause of death, authorities said. All three suspects are being held at the Mohave County Adult Detention Center. It was not immediately clear if either of them pleaded guilty or hired an attorney.
