A former local volleyball player and her father were killed in an accident after being struck by a pickup truck on Thursday, Nov. 24, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. According to a Facebook post shared by Creekview High Volleyball, Alivia Mynes was a former volleyball player. She was noted for her school and for 575, which is a volleyball program club that serves Cherokee and several other Georgia counties, before continuing her higher education in Tennessee.

Alivia, 18, who had just completed her freshman year playing for Bryan College in Tennessee, returned to her home in Canton for the Thanksgiving break when the incident occurred. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called at 11:30 a.m. Thursday on Knox Bridge Highway near Scott Hudgens Drive in Canton for a four-vehicle accident. The driver of an eastbound F-150 truck crossed the center line and struck Myne’s westbound Nissan Armada, killing Chris in the driver’s seat and his daughter sitting behind him.

The 24-year-old truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries to him and was also taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported in the other two vehicles involved in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
