A 23-year-old guy was detained in Texas after police say he fatally shot his girlfriend after she refused to bear his child. According to court documents analysed by Law&Crime, Adam Byrd was apprehended on Thursday and charged with one count of murder in the death of 22-year-old Jade Alyssa Alvarez.
Officers from the San Antonio Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue at around 6:30 a.m. on April 6, according to a report from San Antonio CBS affiliate KENS. According to reports, an officer on patrol in the vicinity came across an adult female who was later identified as Alvarez laying still in the roadway.

She was supposedly shot multiple times and was declared dead there and then. The night before the shooting, a female witness whom investigators were able to locate reportedly claimed that she had been with Alvarez, confirming that Alvarez had been dating Byrd. The witness also told police that Alvarez had used his mobile to call Byrd the night before the incident.
Then, according to KENS, Byrd requested that the witness drop Alvarez off at the Capitol Avenue site between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. The witness complied with Byrd’s request. Then, according to investigators, they discovered that Byrd was wanted on two counts of aggravated robbery that allegedly occurred in Bexar County on April 1.

On April 12, SAPD officers tracked down Byrd, apprehended him on the aggravated robbery warrant, and took him to the station for questioning. Police said that during a meeting with detectives, Byrd admitted to the aggravated robbery as well as to shooting and killing Alvarez, claiming that he had used the same gun in both offences.
Byrd allegedly informed officers what happened when asked to describe what happened, saying that he met Alvarez at the Capitol Avenue site and the two had a heated dispute there. According to an affidavit obtained by KENS, Byrd said they were fighting because he told Alvarez he wanted a kid with her and she replied that she didn’t want to have a child with him.
Byrd allegedly shot her multiple times shortly after she expressed her thoughts before fleeing the scene. An internet obituary states that Alvarez was already a mother to a 3-year-old son. According to detectives, the details Byrd provided matched the evidence found at the shooting scene, according to San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT-TV.Byrd is currently being detained at the Bexar County Jail under a $400k total bond.
