Authorities in Florida say a 26-year-old babysitter who is already accused of killing a baby in her care and abusing another kid has been charged with gravely hurting a second young child. According to court records examined by the Law&Crime programme, Haley Marie Barclay, who was already detained and charged with first-degree murder and numerous counts of child abuse, was given a second charge of aggravated child abuse in connection with the battery of the second child, a first-degree felony.
It is absolutely disgusting to read that the same mother who treated one kid in such an appalling way that it caused its death also caused another infant to suffer major physical harm. Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office visited John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg at 6:35 a.m. on April 17 in connection with a child abuse investigation, according to a probable cause affidavit. The victim was reportedly given a CT scan after arriving at the scene, which revealed a fractured skull, subdural hematoma (bleeding into the space between the skull and the brain), and subarachnoid haemorrhage (bleeding into the area around the brain).
According to the affidavit, the injuries needed emergency surgery during which physicians had to “insert a drain” into the boy’s skull. After being admitted to the intensive care unit, doctors informed the responding detectives that the victim’s health was “rapidly deteriorating” and that the kid needed to be sedated. Just before midnight that night, when Barclay was questioned by investigators at her house, she allegedly admitted to repeatedly violently abusing the victim the previous days.

The victim was shaken against his will on April 12, 2023, somewhere in the afternoon, according to the defendant. The affidavit states that the defendant expressed her frustration with the victim because “[they] would not stop crying and complaining throughout the day.” “The defendant claimed that she put the victim back on the bed after shaking her for about a minute to cease the sobbing and whimpering.
Then, on April 13, 2023, sometime in the afternoon, the defendant testified that out of frustration with the victim’s continual crying and whining, she once more shook the victim against her will while holding her in front of her for about 30 seconds. The boy began acting “sad” and vomiting over the following few days, and Barclay allegedly claimed she tried to manage the ailment with Tylenol and Pedialyte rather than seeking medical help, according to the affidavit.
After seeing the infant “go limp” in her arms on April 16, Barclay sought medical attention at South Bay Hospital before being airlifted to John Hopkins for more advanced care. The probable cause affidavit states that Barclay also produced a video depicting the torture she perpetrated on the girl. In it, she demonstrated how she “grabbed the victim and shook [the victim] in front of her” and how detectives saw “the doll’s head going back and forth without support,” according to the complaint.
On April 17, Barclay was taken into custody and accused of three counts of serious child abuse. Despite the greatest efforts of the medical staff, the boy died on April 21 from his injuries and the accusations against Barclay were increased to murder. Authorities claim that when looking into the infant’s death, they found proof of a second victim who “sustained injuries” while in Barclay’s care.
Agents discovered that the second infant had suffered severe upper body injuries after taking him or her from Barclay’s care as a result of the original inquiry, the HCSO stated. The second child’s relationship with Barclay has not been made public. When the extra charge of serious child abuse resulting in great bodily harm was introduced by the authorities, Barclay was already being imprisoned at Falkenburg Road Jail.
