According to officials, the boy’s parents told emergency personnel and law enforcement that he had a seizure after falling out of a recliner and hitting his head on a hard floor. He had a poor prognosis, EMS told deputies before transporting him to the hospital. He passed away that day at a hospital, according to the authorities.
In addition to bruises in various states of healing, an autopsy revealed that the youngster had overdosed on Benadryl to the point that it might have killed a man, according to officials. Officials stated without going into further detail that the youngster had been living in unsanitary conditions.
Deputies also discovered that the South Carolina Department of Social Services had received referrals regarding child abuse. What the referrals were, when they were made, and how they were handled were all unclear. The South Carolina Department of Social Services did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.
Authorities claimed that the mother admitted to giving her hyperactive youngster Benadryl. According to authorities, “probable cause existed to accuse both parents with the killing of their child.” According to Fox Carolina, a $10,000 bond was approved for the husband but not for the mother.
According to the station, the biological mother of the child granted Christopher Stewart guardianship while she was serving a federal prison sentence in West Virginia. It was unknown what happened in her criminal case, how she knew Christopher Stewart, or why she would grant him guardianship. The sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment via email.
