James Toliver Craig Incident Detail
An investigation into her “sudden” death showed she had been poisoned, said Mark Hildebrand, the department’s division chief. “This was quickly discovered to be a heinous, complex and calculated murder,” Hildebrand said in a statement.
A colleague had recently opened a package addressed to Craig at the dentist’s office that contained potassium cyanide. He alerted a nurse at the hospital to her suspicions, which led investigators to Craig. Police said Craig allegedly bought arsenic and cyanide and secretly dosed Angela into protein shakes.
The arrest affidavit showed text messages between Craig and his wife the week before his death, with Angela complaining that “my head feels weird and dizzy” and even wrote: “I feel stoned.” According to the affidavit, investigators discovered that Craig had conducted numerous online searches on poisons, including “how many grams of pure arsenic will kill a human?” and “can arsenic be detected at autopsy?”
The couple have six children together. Family and friends told police they were having financial problems and that Craig was not only having multiple affairs, but that he had previously tried to poison her. Craig has yet to plead guilty.
