The search for a missing teenager has come to a heartbreaking end. “Several members of the sheriff’s office assembled in the area and began searching for Jontae’s last known location. Jontae’s body was discovered shortly thereafter,” a statement from the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office is investigating the death of Jontae Haywood as a homicide.
He was first reported missing Friday morning after his family had not seen or heard from him since Thursday morning. Around 1:20 a.m. m. Friday morning, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrived on N. Wall Street in Bushnell after receiving a call about a missing 15-year-old boy.

Later that day, Jontae Haywood was found dead in the area with a gunshot wound. His heartbroken mother told WESH 2 by phone that she had not seen or heard from her son since he left home the day before.
She said it wasn’t like him, and that worried her, so she asked for help. Investigators believe Haywood’s homicide was an isolated incident.They say Haywood was a former student of Sumter Prep Academy. His mother tells us that his son dreamed of pursuing a career in music.
