Michael Joseph Vaughan, age five, of Fruitland, Idaho, disappeared from his neighborhood on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in the late afternoon. Since then, authorities have been searching for Vaughan, who reportedly weighed 50 pounds and was 43 inches tall. He goes by the nickname “monkey” and has blue eyes and blonde hair. According to authorities, Vaughan was last seen around 6:30 p.m. m. near his residence on SW 9th Street.
He wore a light blue Minecraft t-shirt, a pair of boxer briefs with a green stripe that were either black or dark blue, and sandals with flip flops. The case has been inactive for a long time. However, a house is now being searched that may be linked to the five-year-old’s disappearance in the summer of 2021, according to police.

According to the Sun, authorities were seen outside a residence in Fruitland, Idaho, with a tractor and dumpster as they searched for a possible lead. Police tape had cordoned off the area, separating the house from most of the neighborhood road that crossed the field. To allow the tractor access to the backyard while Fruitland police searched, the fence around the house was dismantled.
According to Police Chief JD Huff, the couple residing in the home do not own the property and, at this time, there is no link between them and the Vaughan family. “During the course of the investigation, we received information that the remains of Michael Vaughan could be found (behind the house)… As a result we obtained a search warrant. We haven’t found anything yet, but we will continue to dig in hopes of finding the remains of him,”
Police Chief JD Huff said. Along with the Idaho State Police, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue was present at the incident. K-9 dogs were also there, Huff says, adding that crews would return in the morning after leaving the area at 6 p.m. m. The department executed 27 search warrants and conducted numerous consensual searches, generating a large repository of data.
At a previous press conference, Huff had stated: “It takes intense effort and a lot of work to document all the leads as they come in. And at the end of this investigation, I hope we can find the answers. It’s important that our case be organized and very solid.”
